Think / Feel / Do

Thursday, 10 May 2012 00:55
At any one time our life consists of just three things—thinking, feeling or doing. Sometimes it's easier to change how we think in order to change what we do. But sometimes the opposite is true and it's easier to change what we do in order to change how we think. You have to work out which one is the best one for you and the situation that you're now faced with—because otherwise you're just wasting your time. (Generally, changing how you feel is the most difficult option.)

Think Yourself Slim

Monday, 23 April 2012 21:04
You can’t really think yourself slim…or can you? Certainly I’ve seen stories on popular current affairs shows about people who’ve been hypnotized and lost weight, or hypnotized into thinking that they’d had gastric banding surgery and then lost weight. Hypnotizing people is actually one of the skills I learned when training as an Neuro Linguistic Programming practitioner (although NLP prefers to call it “putting people into trances”). Nevertheless, I don’t choose to do it very often.

Weigh More to Weigh Less

It’s important to have some form of accountability on your weight loss journey to help you track your progress. For some people it can be an old pair of jeans, while others may opt for more sophisticated measures such as body fat calipers or bioimpedence analysis. However, most people tend to use the good old-fashioned bathroom scales.

How to Learn to Love Exercise

You can learn to LOVE exercise - I'm living proof!  But learning to love exercise doesn't usually come from following all the traditional methods - you need to think outside the box a bit.

Walking Your Way to Weight Loss

Saturday, 10 March 2012 13:15
Walking is one of the easiest ways to begin your weight loss journey. Walking was, in fact, the only exercise I did when I started to lose weight. I actually walked off my first 17kg!  But there are a number of factors to consider in order to really make the most of your walking.

Are fit people stupid?

Last week saw much controversy over the comments made by Yumi Stynes and George Negus regarding Victoria Cross winning war-hero, Ben Roberts-Smith. With a body resembling a Greek-God, it was more than implied that Roberts-Smith didn’t have a brain to match (let alone effectiveness in some other vital male functions). Now while I’m not touching Ben’s sexual prowess, buff = butthead is a common stereotype.

Obesity is a Confidence Crisis

Sunday, 19 February 2012 16:16
One of the major reasons why people don’t “Just do it!” (as Nike says) in terms of weight loss lies in their lack of confidence that their actions will actually result in any long-term change.

Selling . . . or Selling Out?

Saturday, 04 February 2012 09:45
Yesterday I attended the “Women in Fitness” conference in Sydney. Of the many and varied speakers who presented throughout the day the one that I found most thought-provoking was

Commitment . . . or committed?

Saturday, 28 January 2012 20:54
Recently I was told that I wasn't committed enough to my health and fitness. As one of my friends remarked (who himself has lost nearly 20kg) said, "If I was half as committed as you I would be supernatural".

Why Cardio is Over-rated

Saturday, 21 January 2012 11:01
Whenever you want to try something new it’s always best to model yourself according to the masters of that field. Now personally I find 99% of all body-builders or body-sculpters physically unattractive (dare I say ugly???).
